A Relational re(Orientation) with Dr Lauren Tynan and Dr Paul Govind

Paul and Lauren yarn about how the importance of relationality to Country in influencing state law and the need to not only recognise but respect the values, knowledge and law/lore of First Nation's people in managing our relationship with nature.
About Lauren and Paul:
Lauren Tynan is Pairrebenne Trawlwoolway woman from Tebrakunna Country in northeast Trouwerner (Tasmania), Australia. She is a lecturer in the School of Social Sciences, Macquarie University. Lauren’s research areas encompass cultural land management, Indigenous research methodologies and Indigenous geographies, with a specialisation in cultural fire and relationality. In 2025 Lauren is undertaking a First Nations Fellowship with the Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES), developing Indigenous pedagogies for higher education teaching and learning.
Paul Govind is a Lecturer at the Centre for Environmental Law at Macquarie University Law School. He completed a BA/LLB (Hons) at Macquarie and a LLM at Sydney University focusing on distributive justice and funding for climate change adaptation. He is currently researching the intersection between value change and the Anthropocene, the relationship between climate adaptation and extinction and dephysical property, responsibility and environmental law.
